Pokémon Stadium coming next week to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack

Older Pokémon fans may remember the pure joy of seeing their team duke it out against opponents and friends in glorious 3D in Pokémon Stadium, released in early 2000 for the Nintendo 64. Or they may remember sinking countless hours into the competitive mini-games that could be enjoyed when you weren’t battling.

The fun and nostalgia returns next week for Nintendo Switch owners who subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service ($49.99/year); Stadium will be available to download and play starting April 12!

Will Pokémon Stadium allow you to import Pokémon on the Switch?

The short answer is no. As noted in the trailer above, you cannot bring your own Pokémon to Stadium to battle with friends. There were online fan discussions that hypothesized the game was taking so long to release because The Pokémon Company and Nintendo were working on a way to integrate the Virtual Console releases, which we may see in the future on the Switch, and allow you to import your teams from Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow, but there is no evidence to support that idea.
