As some had predicted, we got our first look at Gen IX, now known as Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, during today’s Pokémon Presents presentation! If you missed it, you can watch the dedicated trailer below.
New starting Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet
It wouldn’t be a Pokémon game without starting Pokémon! Sprigatito (Grass type), Fuecoco (Fire type) and Quaxly (Water type). Their classifications are the ‘Grass Cat Pokémon’, ‘Fire Croc Pokémon’ and ‘Duckling Pokémon’.
Protagonists of Scarlet & Violet
Although the protagonists look the same between versions, their clothing will differ depending on the version you choose. The outfit with the striking orange shorts will be available in Scarlet, while the outfit with the blue shorts will be in Violet.
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet gameplay
The English trailer for Scarlet and Violet describes the games as “an open-world adventure,” but we don’t have many more details than that. In the trailer, you can see wild Pokémon roaming the landscape, so it may be akin to Pokémon Legends: Arceus. It’s unknown whether it will also feature random encounters in the grass.
Inspiration region for Scarlet & Violet
Based on a map that appears in the trailer, many are speculating that this region could be inspired by the real-world country Spain!
