Time flies in the world of Pokémon and a lot has changed since the results of our first Starter Showdown. Two brand new sets of Starter Pokémon have been discovered and countless new Pokémon fans have joined the community. So… what better time is there for Mudkip to defend its position as best starter Pokémon and fans to vote for their favourite Starter Pokémon? Answer: there is no better time!
Each generation has a chance to shine, with polls hosted here on our site, on Twitter and on our Discord server. Each Starter Pokémon from the core series games will go head-to head with the two other starter Pokémon from the same generation and once each generation has been covered, a final round will commence in order to crown the next top Starter Pokémon!
This time, to keep things fresh we will be starting with Pokémon Sword and Shield from Generation Eight and then work backwards all the way to Generation One. So, without further delay…
The Contenders
This time Starter Showdown will be split across 9 rounds of voting: one round for each region, with Kanto receiving an additional round for the Let’s Go games. The rounds will be as follows:
- Galar Round: Grookey, Sobble and Scorbunny
- Alola Round: Rowlet, Popplio and Litten
- Kalos Round: Chespin, Froakie and Fennekin
- Unova Round: Snivy, Oshawott and Tepig
- Sinnoh Round: Turtwig, Piplup and Chimchar
- Hoenn Round: Treecko, Mudkip and Torchic
- Johto Round: Chikorita, Totodile and Cyndaquil
- Kanto Round I: Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander
- Kanto Round II: Pikachu and Eevee
The Prize
While we can’t really offer an award to the most voted for Pokémon, we’ve got some other fun surprises in store for our readers and fans. First as is tradition we will emblazon our site and social media accounts with appropriately celebratory imagery.
But perhaps most excitingly for our fans: a giveaway! Once we have crowned our next champion we will hold a giveaway featuring merch of the Pokémon who receives the wining vote. We’ll have tons of ways to enter, so be sure to vote and get your favourite Pokémon into the spot it deserves! We will reveal full details of the giveaway once we reach the end of this Showdown, so stick around and get your votes in!
Galar Round Voting
The time has come! Let us begin…
For our first round of Starter Showdown: New Clash we’re off to Galar, land of Dynamax and home to the three Starter Pokémon Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble! These three Pokémon first appeared in 2019 with the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield and were available to trainers at the start of their adventure across the Galar region.
This trio of starters may be the freshest of the bunch, but there’s no arguing they instantly stole the hearts of countless trainers. But which gets your vote? Is it Grookey the Grass-type Chimp Pokémon, Scorbunny the Fire-typeRabbit Pokémon or Sobble the Water-type, Water Lizard Pokémon? Cast your votes using the poll below!
