Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Turn 12!

Generation IV

It may be hard for some of you to believe, but the classic games Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl are now 12 years old in America! They were released to English audiences on April 22, 2007. The games were the first Pokémon RPGs to be released on the Nintendo DS and took advantage of many of the new features the console had.

Do you remember…?

The Pokémon Watch, or Pokétch? It had a total of 25 different “apps” that could assist trainers throughout their journey. Some were useful (dowsing machine!) and some were… not (did anyone use the alarm clock?).

The Underground? Not only could you make your own Secret Base in the depths of Sinnoh’s Underground, you could also play with friends and dig for treasure! It was always nerve-wracking to see if you could get that rare fossil before the wall collapsed.

The Great Marsh? One of the areas I was most impressed by in Sinnoh was its expansive marsh. It seemed unlike other areas seen in Pokémon games and was home to Carnivine, one of my favorite additions Generation IV brought. Was the mud annoying? Yes. Was the catching mechanic frustrating? Of course. But it still made a big impact on me and it remains a great memory.

Those are just some of the exciting things Diamond & Pearl had in store for players and we want to hear what YOU remember the most about the games! So leave us a comment below and share your memories of playing them. What would you like to see in a remake?
