This I’m seriously excited for. I’ve played the older version of Crystal, but never G/S. Anyways, speaking on US/UM; I feel more coming at E3. Entirely running on EuroGamer’s creditability and streak of being correct; I fully believe these games might see an additional release on the Switch. It looks like the 3DS is struggling to run it. Yet, somehow, it stays beautiful.

Man……I really hope USUM are worth buying…….I’ve never really liked the idea of 3rd version as I’d hoped refer a brand new story. They can call it an alternative history, but if it’s just reg SM with Necrozma being shoehorned in then that’s kind of disappointing. Them adding walking Pokemon or more mons to the Dex isn’t really enough for me to get crazy excited. Which is sad for me. If they were just gonna do SM again with only minor changes then it should have just been on the Switch. At least that way there’s SOME value in playing again……..*sigh*….I guess at this point it’s too early to tell tho. Maybe something will strike me as super cool about the new games

I think it’s kind of understandable? Arms is coming out before or around E3 iirc so it probably won’t get much focus if any, Spla2n will probably get focus, and at this stage with USUM I think we’ll just get some into but not that much
But this is a very, very imporant E3 for Nintendo. They have Odyssey, FE Warriors, and Xenoblade 2 to cover at the minimum. Covering those alone will take like 20 minutes, and that doesn’t leave much room for whatever I’m forgetting and new announcements. I could be wrong and they could cram in a bunch of stuff, but 30 minutes sounds way too short. If anything I would think it would be longer.

Thoughts on the Direct: Pokken on Switch is great for me. Never really got it for Wii U, and I’m actually starting to think Nintendo might bring over some Wii U titles to Switch since its so far successful (Please Nintendo and Atlus, bring Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE to Switch). As for UltraSun and UltraMoon, seems cool. I may get only UltraSun as I am just now beating Sun and Starting Moon. But oddly the information does seem to fit in with Laura K. Dale’s info from last year regarding Stars, so maybe they may do what Capcom with Monster Hunter XX (Generation X, or if you want to get your game on, Monster Hunter GX (Please get the reference)), and release these on both the 3DS and Switch, who knows? Glad gen 2 ia coming to the 3DS Virtual Console, but am surprised Crystal was left out.

Just a question for those who own one, but has anyone noted how long the Switch Battery life lasts if playing a game like Shovel Knight, or Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero? Just curious as I plan to get a good number of Indies on it as I like playing indies on the go mostly.
You could probably get to about 5-6 hours easily with games like that, if not more. They’re not super intensive.

Every site I see is only saying battery life for games like Breath of the Wild or Mario Kart (not that I mind, I’d play those too in portable mode) but I like variety with games, and getting indies like say Stardew Valley seems fun on the go for the Switch, but no one shows the battery life of it with indies.

Ok so even though I just BARELY finished Pokemon Sun, I’m now thinking to trade it in when Ultra SUn comes, as I kinda am stuck with a Digital copy of Moon. But to me it seems like a smart move as I usually like to play one game as my main game and the other version as the rival game. SO I could use UltraSun now as my main game, and Moon as my rival game. Seems dumb, but unique to me lol

IDK, I seem indifferent. As I got SUn and Moon really late, and just starting Sun, I may get a bit burnt out, hence me planing to trade in my physical copy of Pokemon Sun now for UltraSun. If what they say is true, and its an alternate story, then playing UltraSun as my main game would make re-playing my digital copy of Pokemon Moon less tedious. In all, I’m curious, and hope its not like B2W2, imo my least favorite main title Pokemon games (yes, I said it, I am sorry).

Not sure why people are upset. We all know in our lifetime that we will likely get a DP remake. PLUS, in our lifetime we will see countless more new pokemon. So USUM are coming and may not introduce new pokemon… all this does is put off DP remakes and gen 8 to a later date. If you don’t want to spend money (like me if there’s no new pokkemon) on a game, then dont. But don’t claim that Nintendo doesn’t know what they’re doing. They’ve made questionable choices in the past, but as long as people keep buying the games, I would never call a game a mistake.

US/UM is confirmed as 3DS exclusives. I guess I was wrong. It seems like we’ll have to wait longer for a true HD Pokemon title. Install base for the 3DS is larger, so I understand. The Switch needs a Pokemon title in the future to truly compete and be successful!

Yea it would be annoying, but I guess on a positive note it would show they want to have pokemon on the switch and this is a way to test it while still securing 3ds sales. If it works out we can probably expect D/P remakes on the switch which in the long run may be best

Clearly, “Sun”, “Moon”, and “Ultra” are important words now, so it makes sense that they’d be used again. We can’t forget that they also mentioned “Eclipse” as a possible word (which makes sense, because of sun/moon). They even mention that the games could be “Eclipse Sun”, “Eclipse Moon”, and “Ultra Eclipse”. That information is wrong. Could it be that they purposefully included false information? Sure but that kind of seems like an ad hoc argument now. Also note that they incorrectly gave the release dates and announcement date.
Just be careful of seeing information that may have, by chance, happened to be true and assuming that the rest is true as well.
Of course we cannot assume this to be true, but they got the name right or at least closer than most, also the fact that the press release accidentally had Switch TBA release date might mean someone got confused and added that since they knew eclipse would be on the switch. Could of just been an accident but you never know.

I really don’t think these games deserve any hate at the current moment. We know what they’re intended to be, an Emerald/Platinum 3rd version…or in this case versions. People adore those games. The real hope is hinging on the content these games will provide. And it being on 3DS is fine. I love the Switch, but before the Switch the 3DS was my favorite Nintendo system. It’s obviously not a dead system. I would’ve preferred it on the Switch admittedly, but the games don’t deserve hate for that reason.

I think the thing I’m most disappointed a out is the idea that they dropped 3rd versions specifically because they weren’t necessary anymore (if ever) and NOW they choose to go back to that kind of game? I would much prefer a game with an original story. I really like Alola Sonic don’t mind going back, but I’d rather play something new than just rehash something I’ve done before.

Platinum didnt make Cyrus the professor and Rowan the evil leader. It fixed the game, came out TWO years after DP so it makes more sense to have a new version, at least more than 8 months. Battle Frontier, better dex, better pacing, better battles, better story, everything was better but it was ONE GAME.

I know a lot of people in the official Pokemon YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook feeds as well as on Serebii are really salty about this because it wasn’t a game for the Switch or it wasn’t Diamond and Pearl Remakes. So, I would like opinions on here from the community. I think people are confused because Junichi Masuda said it would be an “alternative storyline in the same world as Sun and Moon” thinking that it’s just going to be a third version like Platinum/Emerald. What he said doesn’t mean that it can’t still be a sequel like B2/W2, just taking place in Alola. After all, we have Necrozma fusing with Solgaleo and Lunala much like Black and White Kyurem in B2/W2.

I am a little bit confused still but feel that this will be a lot different from Sun and Moon from what I saw in the 20 seconds of footage in the trailer, there were some little details here and there that I could spot. I think that these games have the potential to be just as great as any other main series title. People just need to give it some time. Exactly. Not enough has really been shown to declare that they’re going to be bad or anything. For instance, imagine if Platinum had been revealed but only showing the very minor enhancements (towns, gyms, etc.), but nothing of the entirely new distortion world and Giratina Origin Forme storyline. You’d think that the games would be quite lacking, right? We could be experiencing something similar here.

I saw a lot of things changed around in Alola in the small bit of footage that we received, I think that this also potential to be a great game, I just think people need to give it a chance. After all, we only saw 20 seconds of footage. We barely know anything about the games. Building off my last comment, I hope the walking animations for each Pokemon are put to use in USUM. That would redeem every negative observation I’ve seen so far.

In game they only go into their phases when they’re using their signature attacks, opening a portal, and stabilising ultra Space for non-natives (at least I think that’s what the legend was doing when it couldn’t move in Ultra Space, because you and Lillie don’t start to blink in and out of existence until after it has to move)

As cool as that would be, it would be hard to implement yet another feature in the next gen. They already dropped megas like a bad habit, I can’t see them somehow balancing megas, z moves, ultra shards, etc. all in the next gen. They already cant do it in this gen.
Actually tbh I think Megas were handled quite well in the post game of SuMo, with a lot of trainers incorporating it into the battle tree
Yeah but saving it for post game (while allowing space for z moves) made it feel like an afterthought, plus no new ones just feels like the whole inclusion was obligatory.
I think there should just be one mega stone that any Pokemon capable of mega evolution can utilize. You can only use one in battle anyway, and it would free up tons of bag space, so it’s quite practical.

So I find it interesting that GF was still able to baffle us with yet another change to the formula. For so long it was two games + a third years later.
Then Gen V gave us sequels, something unprecedented in pokemon.
People thought gen VI would be getting Z or X2Y2, we got neither–further changing the formula.
Gen VII showed up instead and now instead of sequels or a third game, we have an alternate story. I’m not sure what else they could do in the future besides going back to a third game to surprise fans again.
BUT ANYWAYS, KEEP THE HYPE GOING! This should be just like last night– speculative, hyped, and energetic. We still know sooooo little. We know more than last night, but the door is wide open for speculation.
I think it’s going to be a third version that serves as a sort of sequel in a sense? As in well get more character development and stuff

Anyways, REALLY hoping for an expanded post game. Sun and Moon got boring real quick, haven’t played the games in forever because of the lack of things to do after the main story. Give me some umph to the story and give me second region, battle frontier or gyms to battle in the post game and I’ll be happy.

I wish there were more pokemon like Turtonator, which reminded me of pokemon like Tropius and Druddigon, (similar to Magmar and Electabuzz). High leveled, one stage pokemon who dont need an evolution and could maybe get a prevo.
Instead, we got pokemon like Komala, Bruxish, etc. that got one stage but didnt go anywhere. These pokemon remind me more of pokemon like Farfetch’d and Dunsparce and Quilfish that have one stage and don’t go anywhere yet everyone wants them too.

ok to answer your question, i think a bunch of the one stage only pokemon. i would also love to see an abundance of the new pokemon in USM because 5% chance for the majority of alolan pokemon was ridiculous. but again, they said new pokemon that werent in sm, i took that as the new forms we saw in the trailer and possible alolan johtos because of the fact that gs are coming to vc and are bank compatible. I dont see any new pokemon. Did any other pokemon game add new pokemon like evolutions in between? as in, did bw2 add anything to existing bw pokemon besides the forms?
I just want more Ghosts. Even if they’re Alolan forms.
I want to venture further into the volcanic land, perhaps there we would find some new Fossils.

Really excited and I’m definitely gonna be in a speculative mood until these games are in my hands.
I am leaning towards sequel based on that route and the characters looking slightly different, but I doubt it’s just a ‘third version’. If it is a alternative story, that means it’s a different retelling and it’s not gonna be the same as SM so I think they will be worth playing because of that different story.
It’s kind of like ORAS where some details and things were changed to make a new story, except maybe they’ll change even more.
(And honestly I so want a sequel because that Gladion art that was from the night before makes me want it so much)

b) Yeah, in gen II that was basically gen 1.5 (which is a whole fascinating thing in itself). Any reasonable assessment of precedent (which GF admiteedly toys with in each generation) would take this into account and tell you fossils were still a stable pattern.

1) You do need to calm down. It is just a game. You can criticise it and dislike it all you want, but you shouldn’t let it legit make you angry.
2) Yet Johto had its own regional bird, bugs and rodent, as well as its own starters. We’ve known since Gen 2 fossils aren’t a given and yet people let themselves get overhyped. Am I dissapointed that there wasn’t fossils (and the number of Pokémon in general)? Yeah. Am I gonna let that make me angry or overall ruin a game for me? Mope

Point 2 is frankly just nitpicking. I think discounting Gen II in this case is valid, you don’t, ultimately I don’t think there’s a single right answer of interpreting patterns. It is entirely valid to argue that GF break patterns whenever they fell like it so there’s that too. All it comes down to is me thinking this is an unnecessary and idiotic pattern break, and not wanting to let them get a pass on that haha.
I never said it ruined the whole game for me. SM was amazing. That doesn’t mean I’m going to sweep it’s flaws under the rug. Accepting the flaws and moving on? Sure, that’s sensible. That doesn’t necessarily entail forgiving them or accepting they were valid decisions. They still should absolutely be brought up when GF has a chance of addressing them.

Anyway, the problem is with the legendaries. I don’t mind getting regular exclusive pokémon through the GTS, cause I can breed those later to have my own. But do you like having a Xerneas/Yveltal from someone else instead of having your own? I don’t. This is why I liked Platinum and Emerald more than B2W2. You could get the whole legendary trio in one game.
I’m just pointing out that the two version thing isn’t a problem for anyone but individuals and not a problem with the games in that regard.

– This is correct, but it kinda has to happen. The games are too different from one another. Theirs only one Cosmog, so how do you determine which legendary you get? It sucks, but its a necessary evil.
– Nope. B2W2 sold badly and I have no faith that they could do better after the crap Sun and Moon was.
– It was a teaser, so its forgivable.
– Both of them are trash and belong right along a certain Toucan you don’t like.
– Also overhyped pokemon that doesn’t deserve that much attention.

Alola brought story and i havent played much since beating the main game. I regret hoping for a more story based game. if we look back at bw2, it brought more story to bw so i see the same thing happening for me personally. Honestly while i do think it’s very risky to assume any actual new pokémon, I think it would be reasonable to assume new alolan forms. There were so few of them, and nearly half of them were basically jokes, so I definitely fell like there’s major untapped material.
Maybe it’s safest to be pessimistic and just assume new legendary forms, but I think we do have a decent chance at alolans, if only following the gen VI precedent of new megas.

in all honesty, i do not see megas coming to usm. i dont think it would fit to just throw more in when they stopped in sm for zmoves. z moves are unexciting (imo) but there will be more and we saw them in the trailer today. as for New pokemon, i said this below but i really doubt we will get new pokemon in terms of evos for those one stage pokemon like komala, bruxish, etc. as much as i would love them, i just dont think so. I see the forms and possibly alolan johtos because of the gs being on vc with bank compatibility. one thing i want is more than5% chance of finding alolan pokemon because that made sense. also get rid of golisopod (is this the name) ability or give hidden ability please

I know we are getting new Z-moves but I hope they aren’t all just boring ones that inflict damage and nothing else. Give them cool additional effects and I’ll be excited about them.
well alolan formes were built as different forms of regular pokemon. megas were built to be powerful in different ways, whether it was typing or stats or abilities etc. z-moves didnt have the umph that they thought they would have as a replacement for megas
Alolan forms make sense if you look at real world nature where variations of the same species can exist due to different climates, diet etc.
The issue is that many aren’t explained well and are just because of Pancakes/ whatever.
Megas on the other hand are built onto the lore of evolution in the Pokemon world. Both are interesting but Megas generally have more potential to be game-changers.
Z-moves are pretty much just longer drawn out super moves that can get tedious fast. i found myself pretty much ignoring them completely during the main game.
I think Alola Forms have less oomph because we might get regional variants throughout the franchise i think
I combined everything that makes sense, other people’s theories and my theories to make one Big prediction:
You arrive in alola. You’re from Sinnoh. You have Daddy Issues. You get your starter. You meet your rival that is the protagonist of the opposite gender. You meet Kukui’s doughter that has a weird pokemon. You are saved by Necrozma and it recognizes the weird pokemon. It gives you the Z-ring. You go on your adventure. You fight 8 gym leaders (Grown up Trial capitains + Hau with a Psychic gym + Ryoku) and Totems (Ones from Sun/Moon + A. Raichu (Hau’s Signature mon is now a new Alolan form, his Raichu became the totem)). In the meantime you meet the cult-like Team Crystal that praises Necrozma. After that, That weird pokemon evolves into a second Necrozma that posseses Solgaleo/Lunala and opens a wormhole. He splits and posseses the Totems while preparing to posses the UBs. You have to fight the totems to get parts of Necrozma. He breaks out and posseses the UBs. Gym leaders fights the UBs, you have to get help from Team Crystal and Catch the Original Necrozma, use his Z-move and beat the second Necrozma. You win, the second Necro devolves back into the weird friendly pokemon. Then you battle the Elite 4 and Lillie the Champion. The end. In the postgame you can catch the UBs and battle in the Battle Frontier.

It just so happens that Primarina really grew on me so it’s my fav of the bunch now.

Yep, it’s on one of my first playthrough teams.
There are some I haven’t used but that’s just it hasn’t fit my playstyle of being more offensive (Comfey) or they are obtainable super late in the game (like Vikavolt and Crabominable) cause I like having a full time way before then and I don’t like switching out members unless I feel it’s necessary

I just wish they had left the legendaries alone. They were so well designed, not overly complicated, and pretty stellar. Necrozma was complicated and needed some kind of story, but combining him twice seems like overkill.

I have to say, it’s peculiar that Gamefreak is going with this route for Generation VII and Pokemon X and Y didn’t get the same treatment–neither a third version nor a sequel. This happened with BW in the form of BW2, but did they just give up with XY? Will it be paired with another region in the future?

To me it all seems like a timing issue. They can claim pokémon Z or whatever was never in the works all they want, I’m always going to remain sceptical and believe that they must have planned for it at some point. They just needed to get Gen 7 out for the 20th anniversary, and they wanted to put their all into it, so they had to ditch the Gen VI third version and shoe-in zygarde into SM.
Which is a real shame because now X and Y still reek of unfinished, messy as they are, and it seems quite clear from many subtle hints that that generation still had tantalising secrets to reveal. Plus the integration of Zygarde was a joke of annoyingly-near minimum effort lore-wise.
I really hope they do somehow give XY a proper follow-up someday. Overall I’m just of the opinion Game Freak should just slow down and actually make their games complete and fully polished rather than give us a series of amazing but flawed titles. I’d happily forgo having pretty much a title a year (which frankly I don’t like, damn our restless generation) to get proper numbers of new pokémon, a truly developed story, an amazing postgame, and concepts and ideas that are actually full explored (rather than just leaving a bunch of threads hanging and some obvious missing bits like XY and SM have). But that’s just not their business of production model sadly.
I feel they started on Z, came up with ideas, and then, cancelled it silently, and put those elements in S/M, which is why Zygarde is there. Leaving X/Y with so many loose ends.

I’m honestly so confused why Sun and Moon, such a beautiful and complete game, is getting a sequel when everything was wrapped up in the game.
Yet here we have X and Y with a TON of loose ends and unfinished story lines, and ORAS with literally NO post game whatsoever.

Never been a fan of pokken’s eerie realistic textures but there’s literally no pokémon I wanted more in the game so I’m absolutely sold. Would rather have been able to get the fighters as Wii U DLC but oh well, I completely understand why they’re doing all these enhanced ports (just thinking of the switch v Wii U install base and the amount of people that will get to discover these awesome games), and this enhanced port actually has new content worth a purchase, unlike Mario Kart.
I think it works really well on Decidueye. I didn’t even really look at what Mario Kart has tbh, because I don’t have money for it anyway.
Tbf it has what looks to be the best battle mode any mk game has ever had (with all the different modes from previous games and a new one) to replace the joke that was Mario Kart 8’s, but apart from that all it has is a few new characters (basically glorified skins) and a few tweaks. No new cups just killed it for me. Call me a sucker but I don’t mind buying switch ports if they actually have exciting new content (read gameplay possibilities). More visual options and a new multiplayer mode are not enough for a full price purchase. Hopefully someday it’s reduced, then I’ll pick it up. That or them releasing new DLC (FFS Ninty the MK8 DLC was phenomenal, not continuing to milk that cow is just bone-headedly stupid-I’M READY TO BUY YOUR PORT TO GET NEW DLC FOR HEAVENS SAKE). Ahem.

So, Gen 2 probably will be able to send pokemon to US/UM.

After I’ve had some time to think it over, I’m actually pretty hyped for USUM. SM were great games as they were, and given the opportunity to polish and build onto that, I’m sure they’ll be great. That being said, they way that it was presented in the direct was incredibly messy. I understand that GF values the element of suprise, but that doesn’t mean they should’ve been ambiguous on nearly every point, including what the game actually is. Even though E3 is only a week away and we’ll likely hear something about the games then, the way they presented these games created a seemingly negative reaction from a large chunk of the community, and that’s not what they should be aiming for in terms of first impressions.
Overall, I think we really just need to wait and see what these games actually entail before jumping to any major conclusions, but the direct didn’t present the games well at all, and I fear that will hurt them in the long run.
It really was poor the way it was executed. Really doesn’t inspire much and negative reaction is kind of understandable, at least to me.

I really don’t know what to think of Necrunala and Necroleo. The arms on both of these forms just look off. The helmet of Necroleo also looks so weird… I hope I’ll get used to them soon. Definitely will buy this game though! Depends on other factors which one, since Necroleo is making me doubt choosing Sun again. What’s your opinion?

Well they have to fuck up a lot to ruin this generation. I have faith in them that these games will be great, but I doubt they will be exceeding SM.
SM had this feeling to it, not quite perfection, but something that really stuck out from the other games. It reminded me of how in awe I was when I played through Black and White way back when. Maybe it’s the storyline or the atmosphere, but it was just a pleasure to play through. Whatever changes may be made this time around, hopefully that spirit of Alola still shines through it all and makes me want to put 70-80 more hours in.

I know right… I sometimes wish other people would work at their designing team. I mean I get how hard something like that could be, but how can you just randomly add Necrozma’s arms on the other designs? How high were they?

I can see that. It’s just that I think the angular design of Necrozma is really ugly and that I feel like they ruined the beautiful designs of Solgaleo and Lunala. They should have added black ‘armor’ and have it incorporated in the body. Just copy-pasting body parts of Necrozma on the designs is just not pretty.
Ehh tbh I think they did the best they could do with the whole ‘Necrozma splits apart to make armor’ gimmick, but I do agree that even some minor edits to it rather than straight pull Necrozma apart + paste could of made them even better
Ok…..I’m home and I’ve watched the USUM trailer in full now that I’m not at work. My thoughts are conflicted…….While there really isn’t any Pokemon game I don’t like (minus many parts of DP lol) I have to say at first glance I’m a little disappointed…….I wish we knew more about the games……while on one hand to some degree it seems different than a regular 3rd game it also has all the hallmarks of one and to me that’s a little sad. When GF stated that they didn’t want to do 3rd version anymore because they were predictable I was really happy. I’d rather not have a game that is basically a better version of one that I played less than a year earlier come out………At that point they should have put more in the original games…….Maybe I’m just jumping to conclusions and USUM will be more interesting than I think they will be. I’m a Pokemon whore so I’ll prolly buy US, but I want myself to WANT to buy it……..lol

I think we all wanted to see Sun and Moon in higher quality graphics and with some of the framerate issues polished up. Emulators have shown that the 3DS quality is compromised in order for the games to actually run, but I think that’s where the root of most people’s problems came from. For me, Battle Royal is practically unplayable and I couldn’t help but feel disappointed when a climactic Totem battle was slowed down tremendously. By bringing these games to Switch, we could’ve seen some of these concepts in a new light… but I guess we’ll have to wait. Unless US/UM are optimized in some way for the New 3DS / New 2DS? I don’t think they have the capability of running the games any better, though.
Tbh I think that GameFreak could always brush up their code to try and get it running a bit smoother, or even choose to represent the Totems at least (seeing as they’re required for story) with a simpler graphic than their elaborate Aura. Like a smaller Aura or something.
Yeah, that would just make for a smoother overall experience. Hopefully USUM aren’t carbon copies in that regard, but we’ll have to see.
Hopefully they’ll be optimised a bit, Platinum was iirc (probs remembering wrong) and a lot of people complained about DPPt’s loading and stuff

Absolutely right. Hopefully these technical changes are addressed prior to launch, because it’s a pressing concern for sure.
To be honest if it makes the switch and Pokémon then either moves onto consoles or hybrids I think the technical issues wouldn’t be too bad, but you’d be sacrificing portable convenience.
Hopefully they’ll keep it on hybrids and handhelds though, but in that case graphics and other technical issues become more worrisome… Hopefully it’s just because the main series crew is still relatively new to full 3D and they grow out of it :/

and that was literally it. Besides the Battle Tree…. Which was literally fun for 4 minutes
The main problem with the battle tree is that they hyped it to be this awesome new feature, when it’s just a reskinned battle tower

Definitely Battle Frontier, more Team Skull, reworked protagonist animations (dude smiled throughout the whole game and that was annoying), and new Pokemon (evos/pre-evos). I don’t care much about more Z-Moves or Alola Forms, and I think that asking for more islands might be a stretch. It’s still not clear what these games are, though, whether they’re sequels and will revamp the world like BW2 or remakes with few changes like Emerald/Platinum.
I’m really inclined to say they’re sequels because there are two versions…but who knows at the current moment
It would seem unusual to have a PAIR of remakes, so I hope you’re right! I’d love to see Alola in a different light, however that may be. The region definitely felt small to me… new locations might not happen, but a Gym system would be wonderful. Just to add more depth to the actual battling part of the games. The fact that these games are practically driven by the Ultra Beasts, or at least Necrozma, leaves me little hope that Hawaii’s actual culture will be explored, but I can live without that.

Only thing that I would do is Team Skull. As much as I liked Aether being dark, I wish that it was just only Team Skull and Lusamine uses them to fulfill her goals without Aether knowing.
Tbf, most Aether employees are completely innocent. Most of the ones you fight (or maybe closer to around a half) just seem to be doing their jobs by keeping trainers out when asked to, and there’s plenty of Aether employees around Alola who talk to you perfectly normal, show remorse, had no idea, etc.
Heck, some people called it in game a ‘darkness within Aether’ meaning it wasn’t Aether as a whole

I liked how they were working for the Aether Foundation, and they did have a role in the plot: they capture Lillie and Nebby, getting them to Lusamine so she could fulfill her plans. But I also liked how for once we didn’t get an evil team centred around a legendary, because I kinda missed that from earlier games.

I hope in USUM Team Skull has overruled the Aether Foundation and they ended their bond. They have a new leader who has risen to the top. Alola is a big mess and the Aether Foundation, now run by Gladion, is trying to stop TS from ruining all the touristic hotspots of Alola. Your parents (the heroes from SM) work for the Aether Foundation, but won’t let you help so you decide to destroy TS on your own.

See, this is where I stand conflicted on what these games actually are. Do they pick up after the events of SM or does it take place in an alternate timeline of sorts? One where Team Skull takes over or Lusamine is nice, etc.

Like how Niji (rainbow) was SM’s code name prior to it’s announcement. Either way I suppose it’s a moot point lol

Sidequests are a great way to make cool postgame content too, if they’re creative and engaging. Though just finding ultra beasts in the tall grass was pretty weak, the story part of that quest, and the more cryptic bits like the necrozma hints, were just great IMO. Why not give all the Battle Tree guest stars actual sidequests rather than just cameos? Who wouldn’t want that???

I find that using Furret as a Ghost deterrent is a good move. Give it headbutt and Shadow claw and you’re good to go lol

So the kind of game that USUM are aside……….I have one question about Necroleo and Necrunala……..WHY? I think their designs are cool enough, but I can’t figure out one reason they’d have any connection that would allow them to fuse/ wear Necrozma as armor……When Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyrem fuse it makes sense. There’s lore that tells you why it happens and there’s a device that allows it to happen. In this case I just don’t know……….If Necrozma had just gotten a new form that would have been one thing, but what in the world is a good enough reason to slap Necrozma on top of Solgaleo/Lunala? Not hating on the idea, Just very very confused………
Necrozma is maybe a parasite that needs to fuse to gain power? Maybe combined they are UB killers?
Point is, regardless of what it ends up being, there will be lore/explanation for it in the game. We didn’t know why the 5th gen legends would fuse/their history until we played the games (at least I didn’t) so until we know, I wouldn’t dismiss them

I think what people are mostly disappointed about is that getting a new game should mean a new story. Not a minorly changed version of a game they just played. We should have to buy SM again basically to get the features that are in USUM. If it was a brand new story brand new features would be fine, but having to buy the same game twice for some minor changes seems dirty……..At least to me anyway hahaha

As someone who is also pursuing psych in college and wants to be a social worker/school psychologist, a huge part of dealing with depression is challenging the thoughts that you think and finding ways to distract those thoughts or make them not the sole focus of your mind. While they might have done it in a different way I would have, what they are saying matters and is actually what I would emphasize when dealing with a similar patient.
I plan on becoming a psychologist… but to be honest I’ve only had a single year doing so in school

But if you think I should stop butting in and telling them to stop, I will. I just dont want to bring all the drama here, and then everyone is just left feeling worse than before. No, I totally understand, and like I said, I don’t agree with how they worded their sentiment and the comparing of problems isn’t always the best route. But yuo do have to remind the person that you have to reach for help in order to receive it and it will be hard to block those thoughts out, but you must work at it. Last year they referred to “Radiant Sun” Solgaleo and “Full Moon” Lunala and I swore they meant something despite the fact that they were literally just the forms they took to use their signature moves….

So two things came to mind as I re watch the trailer of USUM. Both involve Lycanroc. First is that I think the two forms will get a Z move. In the one shot we got Midday Lycanroc doing some stuff that is either a cinema scene or a move. I can’t see that animation being less than a Z move. The second thing is do ya’ll think that we’ll actually get a 3rd form for Lycanroc? We do have that empty place holder space in SM’s code. Could be a ting right? lol

And they had a conjoined Pokemon above them named Lanias kind of as a Parent or fusion of them
When I said that we could revisit the original games’s world by using our legendary, I think it actually might be legit. The reason why is because, with the whole thing of GF switching it up every time, I think they could switch it up by having this game be simultaneously a regular third version and a sequel, as we could revisit the original games at a time when it’s a large amount of time after you became Alola’s Champ in SM.
Plus, not seeing what happens to Lillie after SM’s story would be strange, considering GF would be aware that the audience enjoyed her character and wanted to see how she grew as a trainer.

Oh god. There’s so much negative energy surrounding Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, it’s actually making me sick to my stomach. I feel like the hate from others is going to come out of the computer and explode on my face. I’m so worried right now and it’s honestly uncalled for. I shouldn’t let other’s opinions get to me. I’m excited, so I’ll leave it at that. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are going to be great games I feel, with a lot of potential. I’m also excited for Gold and Silver on the 3DS Virtual Console.

I for one am just disappointed that I have to take my 3DS with me if I want my Pokémon fix and knowing me that won’t happen as much as before, so that’s why I rather had some sort of Switch version.

I would of liked a Switch version as well, but you can’t win them all. I was so attached to the Pokemon Stars rumor but I ended up being excited for the games anyway because I know that in the end it doesn’t matter what game system it’s on, it’s a main series game, we got it and that’s that. I look forward to being a part of PokeJungle again to speculate and ahve fun during the news stages. Because I don’t like to hold on to grudges, but apparently a lot of other people do and there’s a lot of uncalled anger and hate on these games despite us knowing little to nothing about them from just 20 mere seconds of footage. But I can understand some of the frustration. You just don’t have to act like a 5 year old child that didn’t get what they wanted for Christmas about it. And I admit, I had my times in the past with S/M and OR/AS leaks where I did not practice what I am preaching and I feel very sorry for all the hell that I put you guys through.
No offense, but I don’t think you’re one to talk about “negative energy” considering your past on this site during the SM leaks. I think until some of us see more of the game and what it has to offer, we will stick with our initial opinions. They could clear up or not, but that’s up to each person.
I confess that I had my times of many outbursts on here during the SM leaks as well as the OR/AS leaks and I feel really sorry for all the hell that I put everybody through but I know that there’s no going back. I’m sure there’s going to be some things I don’t like about US/UM during the leaks and news reveal period, and I’ll try really hard this time to keep those negative comments to a minimum and not spam the whole chat with negative energy. For now, I’m excited with what US/UM has potentially to offer and will just leave at that for now.
I know, it is painful to see the sea of unneeded hate for it. So what if it isn’t on the Switch? Honestly, I’m very excited for what it has to offer, and in the end, I think I’m going to love for what it has to give us.

Just wanted to share my opinions on all the announcements.
First of all I am among the group of people who were not disappointed by the direct at all. I did not anticipate stars since it was just a rumour and Junichi Masuda (or another head of Game Freak) clearly stated that main line Pokemon games will remain exclusive to portable consoles and the switch is a home console. I figured we’d get Pokken or Mystery Dungeon for the Switch.
I never played too much of Pokken on my Wii U, but I screamed like a little girl at Disney World when I saw Decidueye, and the inclusion of 3 v 3 battles also got me hyped up for Pokken.
I admit that I started feeling disappointment towards the direct the longer the Pokken trailer got since I feared that was all we would get, but I was happily wrong, I got excited to see that we are getting Ultra S&M and I loved Solgaleo’s and Lunala’s new forms. But in my opinion, the best part of the direct was the announcement of Gold and Silver coming to the virtual console!! Crystal was the first Pokemon game I owned myself and Johto is my favorite region by far. Duper satisfied and happy with today’s news. Now we wait for E3 and Coro Coro each month!

It was a good Direct. I think we’ll get a lot more people to side with the positive side of things about Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon once we get more information on them. Masuda’s wording didn’t really make it clear to me if we are going to be geting a third version or sequels. So I’m still unsure what to believe at the moment, but hopefully we’ll get more answers at E3 or from CoroCoro magazine.
I agree with you, I’m hoping they still end up having a connection with the original sun and moon stories if they are not sequels, because it would suck if they just threw all the story and character development we got to the trash.

I actually restarted my HG and SS to try hunting for shiny starters on the off chance they would announce 2nd gen for Virtual console. Happy to say after 5562 starters seen, Totodile decided to shine! Still going to try and get Cyndaquil on my HG though. Hopefully no Chikoritas there because i already got one a couple years ago 😛
As for the USUM announcement:
I really enjoyed the fact they just casually teased a couple seconds of footage out of the blue (in the context of assuming they were just showing the pokken trailer at the time. The way they presented it, promising an “alternate story” with more pokemon than were available previously (akin to B2/W2) made me overlook my hopes for a big console leap. I can honestly say this is the first time in a while that the pokemon company has actually caught me off guard in a good way.
I will say, however, when I look back over things, that it DOES somewhat make sense not to make the leap to the Switch so soon. Sun and Moon brought in a ton of sales (14 million copies in less than a year) that I am not 100% the Switch market could handle right now. The demand for the system drastically exceeds the supply given, and having a main series pokemon game for the Switch so early on might have been disastrous. Fans who weren’t lucky enough to get their hands on the console yet would be just as outraged.
While it might not happen this generation, I wouldn’t give up hope yet, friends, as I’m sure we all remember the interview stating that GameFreak is definitely interested in working with the console. Let us hold out hope for the next generation to make the leap! 😀

I think I’ve finally come to terms with USUM. I’m still not sure where I fully stand on it, but maybe there’s some good stuff that could come of it. I mean I played through both X and Y and can’t say I got anything good out of it other than getting to play with some different Pokemon I really like so being able to play through Alola again may have it’s joys. while I do wish it was it’s own completely different story I’ll at the very least give it a chance. We have 5ish months to learn about the games and see what they bring to the table. I think my not wanting it to be a reg 3rd version may have gotten in the way of things for me and clouded my judgement. even if it generally is the same game it could bring some new stuff………We just have to wait and see I guess lol
I’m personally a bit iffy on the fact that USUM borrow the whole fusion concept from B2W2 (even with similar coloring), but I have faith that they will differentiate this story element in some way. Other than that, I see no reason to believe that these games won’t be fantastic. There must be a reason why they chose this path after the success of Sun and Moon, I’m excited to see what comes from it.
I have a feeling ti’s not as cut and dry as them recycling the fusion concept. The new forms look more like solgaleo and Lunala are WEARING Necrozma rather than them becoming one. Obviously the end result may mechanically be the same, but I imagine it’ll be different lore wise. As for the games in general I have to say listening to other People talk about the games on YouTube made me feel better. The idea that while it may be the same general story, but with gyms rather than trials or having certain characters be villains rather than heroes and vice versa could be cool. I just hope there’s enough in these games that is different to make playing through the general story again worth while. Make me feel like I;m not spending more money on the same exact game at least lol

It;s such a cool concept and while sure some of the backgrounds for a few of the new forms are suspect (here’s looking at you Raichu) It’s still really cool for them to bring older Pokemon back to life. I really hope they focus on gen 2 this time around. It seems only right given that GS are coming to VC just before.

Tbh pages aren’t really a good way of counting paper length (b/c of font, size, spacing, etc.). But most of my essays (in hs/college) are 2000+ words all the time. I’ve had to do some 4000+ word research essays which are pretty much hell. But this semester I’m in an online psych course and I’m typing my notes (for the first time ever too, I’m pen and paper all the way). I’m at 29 pages and ~8900 words. And I’ve only just finished Chapter 3. Out of 16. Kill me pls 🙂

Random thought: I want every character to get a crazy redesign in USUM. I have a strong fear they’ll play it safe and make these games too similar to the originals, in more aspects than just the characters, but I hope they go all out.
Worst case scenario, they just change up a few battles and add some different dialouge. Now I’m reaching, but what if they make an all new soundtrack?

Its so tempting, but I’ve gotta get ready for Stormblood. Early access is in 9 days and I need like 4 at least to do the last things I want to do before it, which amount to getting an ugly Fenrir mount, max reputation with the factions which I haven’t yet and do the final quest with them, and finally earn the shiva pony so I can get the Kirin mount. I’ve literally done the fight over a hundred times and never once have earned that last fated pony. I probably won’t be able to even try it until the weekend anyways. People don’t try to do farms until then. Such a shame its a worthless mount now. And if I do it I get to meet the game director’s fourth wall breaking character. He’s pretty amusing.

It could end up being another BW2 situation where the games were great and had amazing content, but due to the end of the DS’ lifespan, didn’t sell too great. But even that said, they are still fondly looked back on as the last games that had a great post-game. Really hoping the same happens for USUM. I can deal with another 3DS game’s efficiency issues. For me anyway, they aren’t too frequent on the n3DS. Just need to see that content…
And it shots themselves in the foot too since people are buying Switches like crazy. At this point I’m just concerned if Diamond and Pearl remakes are going I be on Switch or not because at the end of the day all that matters is the well being of DP remakes.
I’m sure they will be fine games and if it is like B2W2, it’s a day one purchase from me but people’s grievances make sense

You mean the blank sprites in the demo? Pretty sure they were just the Totems, as all Totems but Wishiwashi had one following them. They had the upscale the models and then likely adjust them to avoid major pixellation and stuff

Is anyone else slight annoy at all of the people raging about Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon? Neogaf is has like 30 + pages full of people being super angry. I guess they aren’t a fan of this Pokemon Zoids crossover. Atleast Togedemaru is still in the game, maybe gamefreak finally gave it a viable steel attack. Maybe AZ and Zinna will show up in the game. AZ floette needs to be an event in the game or they have decided to never give it to us. They need to be smart about tying up loose ends in this game. Also, they should add new pokemon if they region is going to have any drastic changes .
I’m with you on being annoyed at of all of the people ragging about Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. We don’t even know anything about the games really, just 20 seconds of footage. The biggest complaints that I’m seeing from other people are that it’s either:
1.) Not on the Switch
2.) Wasn’t Diamond and Pearl Remakes
3.) Sun and Moon was terrible, so therefore they think this is terrible too.

Yeah. IKR? There doesn’t seem to be in-between for most people. It either is really good or really bad. For me, I like to think of the strengths and weaknesses of each game and try to give as fair of a review as possible. Sun and Moon were really interesting. They really did break the mold. Not that there is anything wrong with that. A lot of reviewers in the past such as IGN and GameSpot keep complaining that it’s the same formula. My one problem with Sun and Moon was the lack of post-game. Once you were done, I feel like there wasn’t enough to do after you caught the Legendaries and did the Ultra Beast storyline. I hope that Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon fix these issues.
I hope at E3 we get a really polished trailer, that makes these people’s jaws drop. I think gamefreak is in a transitioning process right now, which is why Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are 3DS games.
Want to know what… You read my mind! I hate all this ridiculous hate on USUM! So what Sun & Moon didn’t meet standards of these d*ck bags! Or so what its not on the Freakin’ Switch! Or yeah we wanted D/P but who gives a flying type f*ck! We got a game and thats what matters be happy for what we have and not what we don’t people! And we probably will see D/P next time around and if not oh well we can’t understand GF’s methods of Pokemon we just have to hope to get what we are hoping!

I completely understand the venting. I was really shocked with the amount of hate for USUM. I am hoping that it knocks the socks off of the people hating on it.
Do you think there will be gyms in USUM? They may be adding the 8th totem (Lycanroc), it could be to match the number of gyms needed. And it could mean that Olivia isn’t a Kahuna/Elite 4 member, or at least a Rock type specialist (there would have to be a rock type gym if Lycanroc’ll be a totem)

There’s those empty lots in some of the towns and routes across Alola that looked suspicious. Those could be locations of future Gyms. Also, from what I saw in the trailer, it looks like the house where the player starts on Route 1 has either become a town (there’s a Pokemon Center to the left when the player is walking up to Route 1 and festive banners as well as Pokemon such as Wingull in the background, so it really does look like a town now) or is an entirely new location on maybe a different or new island. The place where you also pick your Starter Pokemon looks different. They’re not standing on that platform in Iki Town like they were in Sun and Moon.
