It is now 2015 for me here in Japan, but for many of you there are still a few more hours with which to bid 2014 farewell.
This was a big year for Pokémon with the announcement of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire on May 7th and their subsequent release in late November globally. Many fans had eagerly awaited a remake of Hoenn and the games were well received with the graphical updates and region improvements. They even brought some new Mega Evolutions, such Mega Slowbro and Mega Audino, as well as introducing the special Primal Reversion mechanic for Groudon and Kyogre.
A new film also came out this year, Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction which hit Japanese theaters in July and premiered in English during November in the lead-up to ORAS. Like all the Pokémon movies since Spell of the Unown, I took a pass, but I’m sure some of you enjoyed it 🙂
So what’s in store for 2015? A lot! Pokkén Tournament will be debuting in Japanese arcades and features fighting mechanics with high quality 3D models for the Pokémon brawlers. We also have a new Pokémon movie to look forward to which will reveal Hoopa (finally). Finally, there is a great likelihood that the third game in the Pokémon X & Y saga will be revealed and released!
