PJ’s Note: We investigated the source of the rumors and it appears to be someone attending DigiPen, a college focused on game design in Washington state near Nintendo’s Headquarters. They claim to have played a beta version of the game.

Fairy will be a new type. It is weak to Poison and Steel, immune to Dragon, super effective against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting, and Fire and Psychic-type Pokemon take half damage from it.

Sylveon is Fairy-type. Some older Pokemon will be reclassified to Fairy, such as Mawile (Steel/Fairy).

Mewtwo has two new formes, not just one. Both are activated via items.

The professor’s English name is Patrice. (PJ’s Note: Although it’s not the name of a tree, it is a masculine French name and sounds kind of like PA-TREE-SS)

The Starter final evolutions are Fire/Psychic, Grass/Fighting, and Water/Dark.

The first Gym is Bug, the second is Fairy, and the fourth is Fighting.

A few attacks will be dual-typed.

There will be a new type of battling style, “Sky Battles”, that Flying-type Pokemon and Pokemon with Levitate can participate in.

You will be able to see a Pokemon’s EVs at a certain in-game facility. You will be able to boost the EVs through mini-games. It will take about two hours to get one stat to max EVs.

====Updates Below=====

New move: Belch a Poison-type attack with a base power of 120 but can only be performed if the user is holding a berry and the attack consumes said berry

New move: Draining Kiss a Fairy-type attack which has a base power of 60 and heals user for the same amount that it damages the enemy for

Pokébeach tells us to be aware of this information, though also he warns to take it with a pinch of salt. He is being kind enough to share this despite risking losing credit if it is false, which is quite respectable in my opinion. After all, we here at PokéJungle also share anything that comes our way, so that we can all discuss its legitimacy together, instead of just one person at the top making all the decisions. I think Pokébeach taking this stance is a credit to the fans.

The only issue is that Pokémon Smash has suggested that Sylveon’s type is effective against Ice, which would clash with Pokébeach’s source. If this information is to be believed, then Smash’s last Eevee-Akiyama friends special does not necessarily reflect what Sylveon’s type is, but rather was relevant to Shokotan’s own abilities instead. Sounds like a bit of a longshot, but it’s the only way the rumour would still work.

One thing for sure though, even if this info is false and Smash’s Eevee Friends Special is instead to be taken seriously, then we are still probably dealing with a new type. Sylveon-Nakagawa was weak against poison, and the only Types that exist that are weak against poison is grass or bug (Gen I), and it definitely can’t be the former.

Do you think this info is true, false? If you think it’s true, why? If you think it’s false, do you still think there is a chance for Fairy? Let us know below!

[UPD:3 ] In this picture we can see two bird Pokémon perched on a bush. The smaller one (left) appears to be Yayakoma, the bird on the right however, is larger and has a full orange body instead of a blue-grey. Meaning that it could possibly be the evolution for Yayakoma. Its wings are also white, although the underside of Yayakoma’s wings could also be white. On the extreme left of the picture we can also see a normal Yayakoma for reference. It’s entirely possible that the low quality of these images just makes the Pokémon look a little odd, but we’ve thrown it out there for debate. Hopefully higher quality scans will clarify it all soon!

What do you guys think? After all, Pidgey and Pidgeotto really don’t look that different, maybe it’s a similar kind of relationship? Or perhaps, as one sharp reader pointed out, a gender difference?

[UPD 4:] The Pokédex splits Pokémon into 3 different areas and registers them accordingly. Central Kalos dex, Coastal Kalos dex and Mountainous Kalos dex. The number of Pokémon spotted in each area so far is 77, 51 and 6 respectively.

EDIT: Some of the text is very tiny and blurred, but we’ll try to give you as much as we can make of it! We won’t ignore it just because we can’t make out the whole thing, we’ll share all that we know with you! That’s what makes us PokéJungle! -Kriff

Masuda has just updated his twitter once again and this time he has promised us “Massive News”. It seems our reply from him a few days ago was indeed hinting at something much bigger!

“Pokemon X and Y news coming on 19 May. Jun’ichi Masuda to appear on Pokémon Smash”

Masuda links to Nintendo UK, who in turn links to the old Sylveon trailer. Is this a coincidence? I somehow doubt it! As we have said previously, Sylveon’s type confirmation is most likely right around the corner. What’s more, CoroCoro could leak any moment now, revealing the information that we are due on the 19th even sooner. Normally Smash refers to its news as “World First” or “Universe First” if it does not appear in CoroCoro, however the official site just refers to it as big news. This means that CoroCoro will almost definitely spill all of the beans first.

As we have suggested, could Fairy Type really be the big announcement?

<img class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-15196" src="http://i2.wp.com/pokejungle.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/images.jpeg?resize=150%2C150" title="Massive News on the 19th!
This article is my opinion, and does not necessarily reflect the views of the entire staff at Pokéjungle. The bulk of this article is also available in Italian, here. Thank you to whoever it was that took the time to translate!

About me
With that out of the way, I shall now begin this article. My name is Kriffix, I’ve been translator here at Pokéjungle since the 5th Generation announcement. Back in the day, I would always aim to translate scans and leaks as fast and as accurately as possible. Our webmaster Paul (pokejungle) would then kindly host them here. This generation my role in delivering and translating info has become less significant due to the synchronised global release of news. In some cases, English language news has even hit first.

‘Fairy Type’ over ‘Light Type’
Just to clarify, I have always shrugged off theories of new types. Each new generation of Pokémon games has had a constant portion of the fanbase who would rush to the conclusion that there will be a new type, desperately backing up their theory with anything they could grab to use as evidence. There has always seemed to be a tendency for people to not be able to distinguish between what actually makes sense and what is simply their own wish for the series. Back when the Black and White mascot legendaries were revealed, there was mass speculation of a Light Type being introduced. I was never convinced, not even for a second. Why? Other than the fact Reshiram was white in colour, there was no evidence what so ever. People always seem to like the Light Type idea, they argue that it could be a contrast to Dark Type, though this doesn’t really make sense given that the Japanese name for Dark Type is not an appropriate opposite for “Light”. To be blunt, ‘Light’ just seems too broad of a concept that if it were actually ever to be implemented it would entirely uproot the Pokémon series as we know it, perhaps even starting it from scratch.

The introduction of a light type would affect too many existing Pokémon. I could never see Gamefreak taking away a type from a classic Pokémon, though adding a secondary type to previously mono-typed Pokémon is totally in the realm of possibility (as has been seen before with Magnemite). Which is why the whole Light Theory never really spoke to me. I knew that if there ever was to be a new type, it would have to affect as little existing Pokémon as possible. Which is why the Fairy Type theory seemed to click. Not including egg groups, the only Pokémon that are classified as ‘Fairy Pokémon’ are Clefairy and Snubbull, which are both mono-type Normal. Making them easily remedied with a new type in the future were it necessary.

Togetic and Togekiss, contrary to what some people seem to believe, will most likely never be changed to Fairy since they already have a second type. There also seem to be those who believe that, if Fairy is indeed real, all Pokémon in the Fairy egg group will be altered with the new type. I personally doubt this, but hey, who can actually say for sure?

What exactly is a Fairy Type? Getting over the prejudice
I see people bickering over the difference between Fairies, Nymphs, Sylphs, Pixies, Sprites etc. Arguing that they are all different things and should be treated as such. Well that’s all well and good, but it is important that we bare in mind that that it is a Japanese company calling the shots here. I’m afraid that the cries for order in this chaos will most likely be ignored. As you are aware, the Japanese language will use English words and add their own spin to them. Often not distinguishing between our precious borders that dictate the use of one word over another. Before we complain though, we must remember we too butcher the Japanese language. Such as what we consider to be a Geisha, and even the word we use to refer to a certain something you wouldn’t like your parents to see on your browser history.

Moving on, I keep seeing comments like “Fairies are so girly!” or “uncool”!
Firstly, my initial reaction to this is: “Wow, that sounds like it came right out of the mouth of an insecure pre-teen in a playground whilst being overly conscious of their contemporary 10 year olds”. It was then that I realised that this was most likely the case. The Pokémon Series would never add anything so girly or un-masculine you say? What exactly do you call Gardevoir, Melloetta, or even the cute fan favourite of Pikachu? I don’t think there’s a Macho Brace in existence that’s effective enough to remedy these Pokémon.

I don’t even know where to begin dissecting these kind of comments. But I’ll start with this. There are many Pokémon fans who are girls, and would fit the traditional demograph of what a fairy type may well be. More importantly though, why do you have to be a girl to like a Fairy Pokémon? Plenty of guys use use feminine Pokémon, is that a crime? It’s quite Ironic me saying this actually, since looking at my party, my Pokémon just so happen to be pretty masculine, minus perhaps Whimsicott. But it had to be said anyway. Let’s keep the ignorance towards people’s tastes and hobbies to a minimum here. Pokémon is all about variation. If there’s a Pokémon that you like, you use it, if there’s a Pokémon you don’t like, you don’t use it. Simple, no?

Xerneas is said to be a fairy type. Does this fit what you imagine a fairy to be? Most likely not. The Japanese word for ‘fairy’ however is a little broader than the modern English (perhaps closer to the traditional English meaning). It can be something quite spiritual. As anyone who has seen Princess Mononoke may tell you, Xerneas resembles the spirit of the forest. This was most likely because it was based on Norse Mythology. Basically what I’m trying to get at here is that Fairy Type may well encompass a lot more than what the Disney-esque concept of fairies may have us believe. Staying open minded and not damning something from the get-go just because you don’t like the sound of it is always a wise way to go. Let’s keep this in mind.

Stay neutral, stay having fun with Pokémon
People’s prejudice is often the source of why they don’t enjoy newer instalments of the Pokémon games. For example, when Stunfisk was revealed people hated it, many of you probably still do. Regardless of this it has found its fans. In Japan Stunfisk goods are everywhere, there are slippers, cushions, biscuits, you name it. I’ve seen an entire isle of goods dedicated to Stunfisk. Yet when it was first leaked online, all people could say was “Herpity Derp!”. Perhaps so, but does that not have its own charm? What if Slowpoke was introduced in a later generation? It would probably have received the exact same warm welcome from the fans as poor Stunfisk did. Fairy Type may not appeal to everyone just now, but let’s say that for the sake of the argument that it is real, you’re probably going to find something you like in it eventually. Many of you already have with Sylveon.

Signs are Pointing at a New Type
As I have stated earlier, I did not believe in previous generations that there was a new type. So why now do I suddenly change my mind? The answer is due to the precedence in Eevee evolutions. Eevee is meant to represent something neutral that can adapt to any type. Consequently its evolutions represent the type they are. They are practically the embodiment of what ever type they are, with no room to interpret otherwise. So then, I ask, just why is it that we all debate about Sylveon’s type so much? The fact that we are arguing in the first place is a hint that it is not something that can be clearly defined by the current set of types that there are. Imagine for a second that there was going to be a new flying or Dragon evolution for Eevee. Would you have pictured it to look how Sylveon looks? Probably not. Can you honestly say that Sylveon is the embodiment of what a flying, Dragon or Normal type is? Admittedly it’s colour scheme matches many normal types, but its complexity suggests that there is something more to it.

Gamefreak has never revealed (by which I mean named and with Sugimori art) a non legendary in CoroCoro before that has not had it’s type clarified along with it. There is a reason behind why they are trying to hide its type. The signs seem to be pointing to a new type.

Our Source of Information
The source claiming that there will be a Fairy Type has provided information for us in the past. His name is Hiro, and he works for the official Nintendo Magazine of Spain. Last generation he revealed Purloin with his fanart of it mere hours before it was revealed on Pokémon Smash (well, Pokémon Sunday at the time). He did this to gain the trust of various major webmasters, who then went on to believe him. Additionally, Melkor, who also helped out at Nintendo magazine and contrary to rumours was in fact not fired from it also revealed many 5th generation Pokémon to us, all of which turned out to be 100% true. Though Melkor says he is not entirely informed about everything this generation, he does state that Hiro is probably telling the truth. He seems to believe it enough to add Fairy Type to his Pokémon type chart, which is a pretty bold statement indeed. It is likely that Melkor, being a lawyer, is trying to avoid outright saying Fairy Type is real as he will have to go through the same hassle that he went through back in generation 5 from The Pokémon Company International. Melkor is a clever guy indeed, though sometimes it is important to read between the lines to comprehend his actions. On one hand he may be saying “I don’t know”, but on the other he’s adding Fairy Type to his chart. His site is practically the Spanish equivalent of Serebii, which means a lot of responsibility rests on him in terms of what to post and what not to.

Though getting Back to Hiro, our current leaker, we have no solid reason to distrust him. He has informed us correctly before and has so much to lose in terms of credit if what he is suggesting is just lies. Looking at 4chan etc, people seem to distrust him despite knowing what he’s done for us in the past. Again, I think people who dislike the idea of Fairy Type, who are not willing to consider exactly how broad of a type it actually could be, are ignoring Hiro’s existing achievements in favour of their own taste in what should and shouldn’t be a Pokémon . Hiro has worked hard to establish the trust and respect he has at this point at time, would he really throw it all a way for 5 more minutes of fame? I somehow don’t see this as likely.

Last generation, I doubted Melkor and Hiro’s “leaks” to the bitter end. I mean, come on, “sorry, we can’t show you anything official but here’s some fanart of new Pokémon lololol” was pretty suspicious right? But boy, was I every wrong about them. I’ve learnt my lesson this time round though, and feel it wiser to trust them. What’s more, this time they have concrete past achievements supporting them. It’s much safer to trust them this time than last time.

Promises of More Leaks in the Future
Hiro has teased that he may reveal the final types of the starter evolutions. If he does decide to do this, you can bet that we will be posting it here right away. Remember, the more he reveals the more we have to use to see whether he is telling the truth or not. More information from official sources will probably be occurring monthly from now on, once one of Hiro’s leaks have been either officially confirmed or disproved, knowing who to trust should become much easier.

Will you be drinking my tears?
Possibly. It could go either way. It’s just that some of the reasoning behind why people believe there will be no fairy type was based on preference or taste, rather than logic or how reliable the sources have been up until now.

That being said, there are in fact some valid arguments as to why there may be no Fairy, it’s just that I feel that the pro-fairy argument is a stronger one.

Q&A

If you have any questions, just post them below and I’ll try to answer them. If it is a particularly interesting question or statement then I’ll post it here in the article and give my take on it. I’ll start off with a few common messages I’ve seen floating around. Click the Spoiler below to read them.

1:“Why would they add Fairy-Type now? It’s so late into the franchise”
Kriffix: “Why not? Why would Gamefreak not keep their core product interesting and new when they feel it has become necessary to do so? GameFreak has a lot less clear patterns in their decisions than there seems to be, as soon as they establish one and we think we’ve come to understand it, they have often destroyed it to keep us on our toes (e.g. No Pokémon Gray)”.

2. Why would they make such a girly type?
Kriffix:Pokémon has an enormous fan base, there are plenty of people who will like it. As well as there being girls, there are also many men who would be quite happy to raise a Fairy-Type Pokémon. Try not to be too limited in your way of thinking.

3.Can you 100% confirm that Fairy Type is real?
Kriffix: No.

4.How sure are you then?
Kriffix: Fairly. Hence I’m writing this article. At the very least there is just too much evidence to entirely ignore the possibility.

Before we begin we must clarify that whatever is said is NOT to be considered fact.

During the days of Generation V reveals a contact leaked information on numerous Pokémon that later proved to be real. This same source—who apparently has ‘connections’—has said that later today they will reveal the type information for Xerneas, Yveltal and Sylveon as well as a new type. Like we said anything said is not to be considered fact until it is proven 100% real, but there’s a slim possibility we’re in for something.

Update: A little bit of clean up here. In the above paragraph I typed “…has said that later today they will reveal…“, several users mistakingly read this incorrectly thinking that we meant that official sources were going to reveal something that day. When using they we meant the individual who provided this information would be releasing it that day. Nothing about this is official, the user mentioned nothing of an official source revealing anything, let alone in a specific time frame. Seems a couple of other places online may have also received the line correctly. Apologies for the confusion, but declaring it fake (which it may well be) for an incorrect reception of that line isn’t necessary now.

***

The individual has posted saying that the new type is indeed Fairy Type as many fans have previously speculated.

• Xerneas is said to be Fairy Type.
• Sylveon is also said to have the new Fairy typing.
• Yveltal gets Dark/Flying typing.

Update: Clefairy is said to have it’s type altered. No word on Snubbull yet though. Both of these Pokémon are classified as the ‘Fairy Pokémon’.

***

Staff members have all got their own opinion on this, you can read them below. We also want to hear what you think, so please let us know and get discussing in the comments!

Ozymandis: If you asked me whether or not I wanted a Fairy-type, or any new type for that matter, earlier this year, I would’ve strongly said no. But overtime the idea has grown on me, so if this turns out to be true I’m all for it; I’m just not too fond of the name. I’d be pretty disappointed if Xerneas doesn’t turn out to be a dual type though.

Kriffix: Yveltal makes perfect sense to me. Also, each Eeveelution’s type could be figured out just by glancing at it. Sylveon on the other hand was a little different. No existing type seemed to match 100%. Hence, the introduction of a new type feels like its upon us. I didn’t think I’d be saying this a couple of months ago, but at this point it feels right.

NL: Sounds right, Fairy and Dark sound like they would be super effective towards each other.

Justin: The way they have the types now is pretty balanced (unlike the first gen where psychics pretty much decimated everything). Adding additional types could smudge things up. I think GF would be a bit more creative if they were to add a second type.

Plus, I fear that it would bring a whole new slew of crappy gimmicks to the game. Every generation seems to have something ridiculous; berry mixing, pal park, dream world. . .they’re all so frustrating and pointless.

Mechanos: I think that a “Fairy” type would work well alongside the many mythical types(Ghost, Psychic, Dragon), and is actually one of the most logical type ideas I’ve heard so far. It could actually be very unique, giving actual advantages and weaknesses to Pokemon that were previously stuck in the norm of normal type. Plus, it could balance some types that have excesses of weaknesses compared to advantages– or vice versa. Honestly, I would really look forward to this addition, it’s not corny or unoriginal like many of the ideas for types that I’ve seen.

Dan: I personally don’t feel we will see anything come today, but in coming weeks nearer to the release. My own views are though that Yveltal and Xerneas will be dual types, one of the types being a new one – which I think will be the same type as what Sylveon will be. So one new type, which the 3 Pokémon will share, with Sylveon being pure to that typing.

Sammydodger: I would love to see a new type, as it would shake up the strategic options for the competitive and add some interesting designs/moves/story for everyone else. I don’t like the name ‘fairy’ because it sounds childish, however it would make sense for the target audience.

moving: Personally, I’m quite liking the idea; although I’m not huge on the name. Xerneas seems to fit the Fairy type nicely and I’m sort of excited to see what they do with the current type chart to fit it in. I think everyone already called Dark/Flying for Yveltal, so that’s good too. That is, of course, if this is all real.

REMEMBER: DO NOT CONSIDER THIS AS FACT, BUT A RUMOUR

Pokémon Smash is airing in Japan shortly, and a possible big announcement is right around the corner. There are several possibilities as to what Smash will reveal, but it’s likely related to the global announcement on the 8th of this month.

Assuming it’s something brand new, whether an entirely new Sixth Generation or remakes of the Third Generation games, it’s likely we will see a teaser of something. If this is the case we could be shown some new silhouettes for either brand new Pokémon, or even old Pokémon; which would suggest remakes are coming.

With Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 coming out tomorrow, there’s a lot of excitement in the air! So our question today is: Do you have a team in mind for your playthrough of Black 2 or White 2? Or, if the case may be, why won’t you be playing BW2?? As a helpful reminder, here’s the regional Pokédex list for the two games so you can see what you have to choose from if you can’t trade with anyone/

I’ll go ahead and give a preliminary idea of the Pokémon I have in mind: Carnivine/Leafeon, Galvantula, Sigilyph, Crustle/Bisharp, Vaporeon/Crawdaunt, Chandelure. As you can see, I’m pretty conflicted about what partners to train. Feel free to also vote in this poll:

After a short delay Part 2 of the Unova arc is here. This second part has proven a little harder to write than the first as the remaining Unova Legendary Pokémon don’t have as much backstory and speculation points as the three dragons do. As a brief note before you begin reading: this article is significantly shorter than the previous as I have cross referenced certain to certain points, so make sure you’ve read Part 1!

The Unova region is perhaps the most inter-contrasting region within the known Pokémon World. Human presence and development is obvious within Unova and a clear history is visible throughout numerous cities and towns. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the region is how it came to exist. Through the actions of war. As mentioned in the previous article Unova was the stage for a war that eventually united the people to form the region known today. However, at an unknown time in the history another war broke out, people were in conflict again over a dispute within the existence of Unova. The civil war caused mass damage to the region and ignited a forest fire threatening the native Pokémon.

In order to save the Pokémon, three legendary Pokémon appeared. Each of the three were said to have used their individual traits to rescue the Pokémon and protect them from the raging inferno; endurance, strength and agility, Cobalion, Terrakion and Virizion respectively. Before vanishing into myth the trio were told to have ended the civil war and unite Unova once again. During these events Keldeo was also said to have assisted in the rescue efforts after intense training from the other three Pokémon.

In contemporary history Cobalion, Terrakion and Virizion all appear after the New Team Plasma announce their plans for the Unova region and begin to freeze it using the power of Kyurem, and as such this is likely the reasoning behind their re-arrival. The backstory and intentions of the musketeers and/or Keldeo is a little bland and hopefully BW2 will shed some light on the subject. It can’t be argued that the three musketeers and Keldeo appear during times of conflict and as such their appearance could be due to a prediction on their behalf. As such all the theories compiled will imply that the musketeers have appeared in vain of prevention.

The new Team Plasma have intentions of manipulating Kyurem to gain control over Unova and reverting it back to the unstable region it once was. This would undoubtedly cause mass conflict between the people of the land and result in a situation similar to that of the musketeers’ initial appearance. It would make complete sense for the four Pokémon to want to protect as they did in the past. Since a large amount of time has passed since the initial civil war each of the four Pokémon will have had a significant increase in their abilities, which may explain the existence of Resolution Forme Keldeo. Years of further training has granted Keldeo the ability to learn Secret Sword from the trio and results in the Pokémon taking a new stronger appearance.

The second idea also suggests that the actions and plans of Team Plasma causes the appearance of the four Pokémon. By fusing Kyurem and either Reshiram or Zekrom (read the theories in Part 1) Team Plasma are reviving an entity that caused conflict thousands of years ago in the region, albeit through the manipulation of human beings. Unova would return to its state of unease and unrest with significantly worse possible outcomes. As such – similar to the original story of The Three Musketeers in our world – Keldeo, Cobalion, Terrakion and Virizion may be serving the “king”*, or the original dragon. Preventing the inevitable destruction that would occur if Team Plasma successfully reformed the beast and manipulated it to their will.

In BW Cobalion, Terrakion and Virizion show hostility and aggression toward the player. However, in BW2 the three willingly present themselves to the player. This would suggest that the Pokémon are offering themselves in order to train and strengthen Keldeo. By gathering the four at the Oath Woods Keldeo is taught Secret Sword and is able to switch to its Resolution form. These events will have provided Keldeo with a significant boost making it strong enough to fight off and foil the plans of Team Plasma, preventing turmoil returning to Unova.

There’s currently no clear reason as to why the trio present themselves so willingly to the player, or why exactly Keldeo learning Secret Sword is important enough to have received its own location in BW2. After the English release of the games there will be some clarification on the subject, but it’s likely that a lot will be left up to the imagination of the players.

*There’s deep fan speculation behind what or who the “king” is, I’ll likely be covering this and the Abyssal Ruins in a later article.

There is obviously reasoning behind The Musketeer Trio’s appearance in BW2 but why is currently unknown. Do you support any of the above ideas? Or do you have a completely different one yourself? If you’ve already played BW2 what else can you speculate beyond the facts already laid out in the story? And finally, what do you guys want in the next article?
