So…the solution is: buy the game and make sure you don’t like it before you feel assured that your initial perception (whatever it may be) was correct?
That’s a good way for a company to register sales even when people have actually not felt so hot (again, for whatever reason) about the product they’re selling. People have every right to dislike something, just as people have every right to think it’s the greatest thing in the world. If you really feel so negatively towards those who dare criticise a product, that really says more about your inability to be objective and just say “well, it’s good by my standards. I can’t personally say I agree with their assessment. But then, they obviously don’t agree with mine. In the end, I’ll enjoy it, and they won’t. Carrying on…”

I completely agree. A few of those that were included in this game are great; a few not so…but that’s true of every generation. However, what made me really decide against buying any game this generation is that A) I’d have to buy a 3DS in order to play it, and the only other game currently planned for the system that I’d be interested in purchasing is the Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds; B) there are only 69 new Pokémon available, and the amount of differences between this generation and the last seems overkill in light of the scarcity of -new- species. None of the new ones are enough for me to think “69 new species is a bit sparse, but look at the quality of those we got given”; the trouble, really, is that none of them are so wonderfully-designed that they make up for the sheer lack of population. The other elements of the game, which obviously took a lot of planning and time to implement, also don’t make up for it; overall, while nobody would (I’m sure) buy a RB(G)Y-quality game w/ hundreds of new Pokémon and -not- feel short-changed these days, the thrill for most people in finding out about a new Pokémon game is that there are many, many new species available. What one can -do- in-game is secondary for most people (unless I’m way off-base in my reckoning). So…spending all of that time and effort on things like Pokémon-Amie, improving battle mechanics, and the like seems more like what might be offered in the second iteration games of a single generation – such as how Yellow advanced upon RB (and in Japan, how Blue advanced upon RG); how Crystal advanced upon GS; how Emerald advanced upon RS…etc. Instead of seeing second-iteration advancements, we see advancements in the first iteration – but apparently with the cost being an approximate 50% reduction in new species introduced. I like some of the mega-evolution designs, but effectively stating that an old Pokémon gets a new in-battle form (which is what mega-“evolutions” are) really isn’t a stand-in for a new Pokémon species at all. Clearly there were designers who sat down and rehashed old Pokémon designs, with the cynical intent being to snag old fans back into the franchise; why could designers not have spent as much time increasing the new output to 100 species? As a fan who -has- been w/ the franchise since RB…I can honestly say the focus on underscoring old species, rather than diversifying the overall Pokémon species bank as much as could have been done, has turned me completely -off-.
In other words…I totally agree. I’m not buying any of the new games. Not because I think they’re rubbish, not because I think Pokémon is somehow going off in the wrong direction, not because I’m a bastion of the old ways and like Generation 1; rather, because I really wanted to love Generation 6 and the actual number of Pokémon therein has left me feeling like there’re 31+ species slots left unfilled.
