The graphics are beautiful (though lack of 3D on double and triple battles was disappointing), breeding is streamlined, the Pokemon selection is astounding, and IV training has never been easier.

And on top of that, it is the first game in the series that has some semblance of emotional depth. I nearly cried during the end credits (not going to elaborate any more for those who haven’t yet experienced it, but you know what I mean). Certainly you could call the story juvenile compared to other games these days, but for a Pokemon game it was heaven.

Also, in the Battle Maison, a Hex Maniac named Clara implied I was the Doctor. (Something about being “a doctor from an evil planet”). Best. Localization. Ever.

I hope there is gen IV remakes next. Kalos is full of Hoenn pokémon, but it has very few Sinnoh ones. Sinnoh was lovely. Hoenn had far too much water and in general was shit. Remakes would have happened on DS with Gen V if they were to happen.
