But its not a story about that! Having an evil villain that you fight doesn’t make the story about good vs evil. It’s not the destination, its the journey and the journey is filled with people’s perspectives. Not the villain you fight at the end.

The thing is though, when someone tells you that something sad happened to their family member, you feel bad for them and you sympathize. But in a game or a movie, you have to have a reason to sympathize. Its what makes characters into people. Because you can’t relate to fictional characters. You can relate to fictional people.

When we hear that Hugh (who we dont even know anything about at this point because the game just started and he isnt in BW so we have no idea what kind of person this is) has a sister who had her purrloin taken, we don’t feel that sympathy because in this world, everyone gets their fucking pokemon stolen. You cant even go to school without someone taking your pokemon. So why should we as an audience care,

The game fails at making us care about these people because their perspective is never properly shown. We never meet this sister and have an actual moment where we understand what it means to her. We are told that by Hugh.

And hugh is literally ALWAYS ANGRY. He never has any moments where he is a friend to you or he talks to someone like a regular human being. He is always pissed about something. he sees you and anyone else around like allies to help him get his fucking pokemon back and not like people. It makes you ask why are you friends with this kid

I said it is deep. I said it’s better than BW2. But in the end, BW still comes down to good VS evil. Did I say it was just barebones good and evil? No. Did I say it had no depth? No.

If you can’t connect with people just because they were never part of your life, I’m sorry for you. But it’s not meant to be the player’s driving force at all. It’s Hugh’s. Look at his perspective rather than yours.

By that logic, we shouldn’t feel bad for N or Lillie because we never see their sad upbringings, we just see the aftermath and interaction afterwards. The exact same as the Purrloin plot.

That’s called being passionate. He feels emotion strongly, as shown by his love and anger.

Oh so because Ghetsis was feeding N these beliefs i guess all of that other stuff is just meaningless. Nevermind the fact that Zekrom and Reshiram’s backstories are entirely cewntered around opposing ideologies yet neither of them is the evil one. Forget the fact that in the second town of the game you see people reconsidering their beliefs. Forget all that.

There is a villain so its good vs evil with no other depth and so BW is the same as b2W2

Hmm no.
I think Hugh helping his sister gives some development to his character. That he cares for his little sister. You know the big brother to the rescue. Without it he’d be like another Blue/Barry

But we never SEE that grandfather. Or the moment that she got the pokemon. So we have no connection to it as a player. A purrloin is just a purrloin to us, players who see them every single time we walk in the grass. It doesn’t click. We are told all of these connections but never see them so the character is never built up enough.

Hugh is never shown to be compassionate though. He helps people but he always does it angry and full of rage. He seems more like an ass with anger issues than a caring person. A character that is constantly angry is unlikable.
