Anudo, discussed in one of his interviews that the original concept was that it be a pokemon X Fe crossover. Seems not many people know this though.

Well I hope the reviewers would praise the attention to detail. The stages aren’t just there because you needed a place(holder) to fight in. They really spruced it up compared to certain other fighters with fairly empty stages, say, Soul Calibur, Blazblue, UNIEL, Dengeki Bunko or Melty Blood.

Seen the Electrode (Voltorb?) on a treadmill? Or that Joltik on a lamp post? <3
