Also, indeed, I recently heard of that rumour about Venonat and Butterfree but I still think Butterfree looks good with Caterpie, Both have a friendly look, contrary to Venonat IMO.

Yepp, low stats kill a lot. You know what gets me? How many awesome pokemon(who don’t need evolutions) have low stats. Like Druddigon, he should be usable, but they have to have low stats so that it isn’t so easy to get such high stats without training. ):

I’ve never heard that before, I personally always thought Mew was a cat due to the name?

I heard that the reason for this was due to the anime. The animators felt that Venomoth wasn’t a “pleasant” looking pokemon for the main character to have, but with Venonat having Psychic attacks would have made Ash’s team too powerful at the time so they decided to swap Butterfree and Venomoth so Ash would have a “pleasant” looking pokemon at the start but not have have a somewhat overpowered type of attack for the early goings of the series.

I’m not sure how true this is but it is what I heard.

I wonder what is the reason behind it. Did they think Venonat-Butterfree line looked bland and boring, did they think switching it would cause further arguing, did they want Caterpie to completely change to emphasize on metamorphosis? …or was it a mistake? …or someone just said “Hey, why not switching them?”
