Yeah, it's a marketing ploy more than it is a game balance. I still like my idea of keeping the actual energy types minimal and just adding a sub-category that defines one of the 17 types. That way we don't end up with 17 different energy cards, etc.

I don't play the trading card game, so perhaps that invalidates my opinion, but... why Dragon? That seems like a strange type to suddenly start representing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there isn't even an Ice-type with which to oppose the newfound Dragon-type. This seems more like a merchandising decision than a decision for the sake of balancing the game. It seems more like a marketing choice, now allowing for lots of shiny new Dragon-type cards to be peddled out (using old Pokemon, no less) and sold as new and exciting just because they have a new, unusual type. Kind of weak, if you ask me, but then again, I really don't play the TCG, so I can't say any of this with perfect certainty.

Yes, ir really didn't make sense. Why Psychic? Lots of poison pokemon's secondary types are bug and grass types. So it made sense in the first place.

That makes ten types that are represented in the TCG. There's plenty of Pokemon in each type now, so why not make all 17?

At the very least Poison should have gotten its own type when it changed from Grass to Psychic. That made no sense to me at all.
