Just to clarify my suggestion a bit:

Two ‘Chu’s up for grabs, so have two contests:

An Art Contest for the artistically minded – I’d say, Paul, draw up a brief, a set of rules, that give people a set of requirements to meet, similar to what you did for the banner thing – must feature Chikorite/Tsutarja, must be green/black, must be this size – you know?

Writing Contest – again, a set of rules – say, a two page short story in MS Word using Times New Roman and font size 10 – just to make it fair, everyone’s got the same amount of space to work with – and set a general storyline – write a two page story dealing with a new trainer leaving home for the first time – something general that gives people a lot to play with.

For both of these, what you can do, is if you can’t decide, take the ones who you can’t decide into a kind-of second round where they have to draw/write something else and so on and so forth until you have winners for both categories.

This would be especially useful if you create both a FanArt and FanFic sections for your main site – it gets people chucking stuff in there straight away!

As said before, I’d suggest also giving people who can do both the opportunity to enter both.

I’m kidding ^.^ seriously, congratulations. As said above, I love love love the idea of an art contest, but maybe that wouldn’t work for people on here that aren’t too artistically minded? Seeing since you’re doing two, why not have two different contests for both – an art contests and a writing contest – people can entrer both if they want or just one of them depending on their skills?
