New Nintendo 3DS Color Coming!

To Japan at least.  This “Ice White” 3DS will hit shelves on November 3rd and be the fifth color to be released.  Personally, I’m very happy with my red 3DS.  Comments on this color?  What’s your favorite color of 3DS?

PJ Plays: Pokemon Rumble Blast

Ah! A new addition of ‘PJ Plays’, the long neglected column that unceremoniously disappeared after Pokemon Mystery Dungeon bored the hell out of pokejungle! It has returned, however, since I have obtained a Japanese 3DS (beautiful flame red, no cost to me as my boyfriend gave it to me) and a copy of Pokemon Rumble Blast.  Right now I’m in the third town, West Town, with the first two being Toy Town and East Town.  You can see my Leavanny at the fountain above.

I’ll get more into the game in the next article, but for now I just wanted to share a few thoughts in a bullet’d list (mostly because I have a sinus infection and need to wake up in 6 hours for work):

  • The 3D effect is not overly strong
  • Don’t get attached to your toys, you’re constantly replacing pokemon
  • Some toys have special bonuses, such as regenerative HP
  • I haven’t bothered to really understand the storyline
  • Lack of multiplayer seems like a real missed opportunity in this game.  Srsly.
Ideally I’d like to do the articles town by town, possibly starting with my experiences in ‘West Town’.  Since this isn’t in the “main series”, I’m sure reading about the experience is more valuable than any sort of drab guides or solid information at this point.  The 3DS region restriction means not many of my readers are probably playing right now.  I will use this game to pilot our new content pages so that PJN will once again be an information source and not just news blog.

3DS Price Drop, Rumble Delay Makes Sense

The newest Nintendo handheld, the 3DS, will receive a substantial price drop on August 12th. The American price is being cut by $80, going from retail of $249.99 to $169.99 and Japanese price from ¥25,000 to ¥15,000. This drop is probably to spur on lagging sales and increase the console’s adoption rate. Will I get it now that it’s gone down in price? HELL YES.

Pokemon Rumble’s mysterious delay is also much more logical now that this has been announced. Console sales often spike when games for flagship franchises are released. I’m now thinking to get a 3DS and Scramble on Aug, if there are any in stock.

ps- If you already have a 3DS, or buy one BEFORE the 11th, you can get access to 10 free NES games and 10 GBA games before they’re released to the public. Isn’t worth $80 in my opinion :p Requires you to connect to the 3DS eShop wirelessly with your device on or before the 11th though!

Super Pokemon Scramble Trailer

Looks fun, huh?!  Besides just getting to enjoy the 4 minutes of gameplay, here are some other little facts gleamed from the video:

  • Player starts in ‘Toy Town’
  • One of the modes is ‘Team Battle’
  • One of the modes is ‘Assault Battle’
  • There are special areas you may play co-op in
  • Game utilizes the 3DS’ StreetPass function
Exciting stuff, eh?  I want a 3DS more and more!

3DS PKMN Game: Super Pokémon Scramble!

Well, the first Pokémon game coming for the 3DS (excluding the Dex) may not be what you were waiting for. If it’s anything like Pokémon Typing DS it may not even make it out of Japan.  This screenshot was posted on our Japanese partner ShellSpider and is of a game reservation info list from Lawson (a Japanese convenience store which has a location a minute from my house).  No other details right now, but we’ll keep you posted!

Obviously this is NOT rock hard information as the game has yet to be even announced by Nintendo, but often retailers get information much earlier than the announcements are put out :)  Their slip ups are our luck!

From what the rumor claimed, it’s going to be in CoroCoro this month and will be released in October. It is a spiritual sequel to Pokemon Rumble for the WiiWare (which was called Pokemon Scramble in Japan), except it’s a lot more expansive and is a four player (local and WiFi) Gauntlet-style game.

There are only 5th Gen Pokemon included except for Pikachu, at least judging by the preview in CoroCoro, and the initial playable character are Pikachu, Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott. You basically run around hack-and-slashing your way through other Pokemon, and each Pokemon can level up and learn new attacks. It utilizes the models from the recent 3D Pokedex, apparently. Kind of a non-turn based Mysterious Dungeon, you could say. – Kenhorou
